On Sept. 3, 2014 Mike’s Auto Body acquired Central Collision in Fremont, CA, making this 78 year-old, 30,000 square foot second-generation body shop its 13th ocation. With a goal to increase the size of its market and establish a presence down the Nimitz Highway 880 corridor, Mike’s Auto Body is excited about taking its successful business approach to Fremont, CA the Bay Area’s fourth-largest city with a population of approximately 222,000 people.

CEO at Mike’s Auto Body Brennan Rose started discussing the acquisition with the owners of Central Collision back in early 2013 and both parties came to a decision immediately before Labor Day, he explained. “We have been in discussions with Bill Brunelli, the shop’s owner, numerous times over the last year and a half and got the call a month ago saying he was ready to move on and join our team here at Mike’s Auto Body. Bill and his father have a reputation for being a high integrity, community-based, quality operator. Their operational standards, facility structure and employee base will fit our model perfectly. We are very excited to have the opportunity to expand our market share to the south and undoubtedly we will see other opportunities arise out of it.”

The Fremont acquisition will mean one promotion and several position changes for existing Mike’s Auto Body personnel, Rose said. “Jeff Reeder, an Assistant Manager at our Via De Mercados, Concord location, will be leading the charge at this new facility,” Steve Kelly, COO at Mike’s Auto Body said. “Manager Jason Toner will be our new location manager at Via De Mercados, Concord and Kent Osborn will be taking Jason’s role while Manager Keith Hobert will be assuming a new position as an Area Manager. We’re confident they will all hit the ground running and will only have to make some minor tweaks along the way while implementing our culture. We also look forward to retaining many of the long-term quality employees at Central Collision and making them a part of our extended family.”

The death of cash as a payment method has been announced almost every year for the past decade. However the lack of a viable alternative for low value payments has meant that cash has persisted. With the rapidly increasing acceptance of contactless payment cards, perhaps that fateful day is finally approaching.

According to the UK Cards Association, card purchases hit a record high this summer as Britons increasingly shopped with cards in August rather than cash.

Debit card transaction levels increased by nearly ten per cent compared to last August and credit card sales increased 8.4 per cent to 232m in the month. This was the first time the total of monthly transactions passed the 1bn mark.

Consumers are embracing paying by plastic for its convenience and even looking into mobile and contactless payments as the industry evolves.”
